Luke has been through a lot. Dumped at one of our colonies on the water, he was picked up by a caretaker and taken to CHAT. He had a fever, two abcessed paws and a bullet in his chest. He tested negative for FELV and FIV so we authorized surgery. The vet put drains in his paws, removed the bullets and neutered him. After several weeks of daily meds, he is very healthy and super friendly. Everyone who meets him falls in love.
Hours before moving into the adoption cage Luke was retested and to everyone's disappointment tested positive for FIV (we have since had the western blot test done to confirm). We are determined to find him a home rather than putting him down. A relatively young healthy cat like Luke can live with FIV for many years with minimal problems. It is not by any means a death sentence.
It would probably be best for him to live as an only cat, with a dog or with another FIV positive cat but FIV is not easy to spread and he could live in a household where none of the cats are biters. Talk to your vet, the vets at CHAT and do some internet research and then please consider Luke.
He is FELV negative, altered, microchipped and has been vaccinated.
We do check references and charge an adoption fee of $75 which includes all the vet work done prior to the adoption and registering the microchip.
We would be open to discussing a permanent foster situation for Luke as well as an adoption (the primary difference being we would retain responsibility for any large medical expenses Luke might incur). So if your only hesitation about taking Luke home is possible veterinary cost, please call us and we'll talk.
